PQM in Action

"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints" (Ephesians 6:18, NKJV).

The purpose of the prayer quilt ministry is to promote intercessory prayer by making lap quilts for those who are experiencing a special need. From beginning to end, every pair of hands that touches the quilts is guided by prayer. It begins with the person who chooses the fabric and continues with the person who cuts the fabric. Prayer guides the one who irons the fabric and the one who sews in the ties. It’s not the pattern, the color, or even the workmanship that makes these quilts so special. It’s the fact that the quilt represents the intercessory prayers of the saints for that individual.

Once the quilt is made, a heavy thread is used to take stitches through the quilt layers. The ends are left free to be tied with square knots by members of our congregation. As each knot is tied, they say a silent prayer for the one who is in need.

Without fail, everyone who has received a quilt has said that when they cover themselves with their quilt and run their fingers over the knots, they can feel the prayers, love, and concern that have gone into their quilt. It gives them something tangible to hold onto during their time of need and gives them comfort and encouragement. This ministry is a testimony to our belief in the power of intercessory prayer. Our motto is that “it’s not about the quilts; it’s all about the prayers.”

Members of the prayer quilt ministry meet every Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Sewing experience is not necessary – only willing hearts and hands. We exist to encourage members to reach out to others through intercessory prayer.
